Reply with quote | #1 | I was diagnosed in July and since changing my diet, have seen significant improvements in my overall health and finally feeling some spunk again.
This morning I awoke with diarrhea, I took 5 Imodium and managed to go to work (just started a new job in 8/1 and can't afford to miss). By 8:30 I was sick at my stomach and feeling like I would faint; had a cold feeling going through my body and light headed. Had to call my husband to come get me as I afraid to drive. I used to do this before being diagnosed but have been eating right since then. Last night I made chili using hamburger, Laura Lynn beans and diced tomatoes (both are Ingles brand and list allergies on can). I used corn tortilla chips that I have been eating from day one. That was it....any clues or is anyone else experienced these episodes?
They really scare me when it happens. |

I have had the dizziness spells recently too, and I was dx over two years ago. Vitamins B6 and B12 have really helped me. |

Reply with quote | #3 | Do you take the B6 and 12 in pill form, liquid, the disolvable strips? I have read that malabsorbtion makes it difficult to get this into my system.
I have an appt. later this month with the gastrologist that diagnosed me. It will be my first visit since dx and am anxious to speak with him about all this. |

Reply with quote | #5 | I take the "pill" form. B12 does not have an upper limit because it is water soluble. B6 has a toxicity level, though. I believe the upper limit is 500mg. |

Reply with quote | #7 | You need to make a call to the company and find out. I'd almost bet that is your problem. Many herbs, spices, mixtures are not g-f. But you can learn which of yours are okay and which are not. At the very least, mark any that are not okay with a big black X so you won't use them again for yourself. I am not familiar with the one you used at all and it is not listed in Cecelia's G-F Grocery Shopping Guide. The guide does list many, many spices so that it won't be hard to find one that is safe.

Reply with quote | #8 | I am not as sensitive as many, but had my first bad episode several months ago, and it was exactly like what you described. Fortunately, it was the weekend, so I was able to just keep up my fluids and let my body flush out the offending gluten, but I had the nausea, chills, and light-headedness, too.
I did some internet research and found a few interesting things: Walmart has a nice little online product info site. It lists the distributor as Mccormick, whom we can usually trust, and it lists the ingredients with no gluten in sight. However, when I look up Mccormick, they do not list any association with the 5th Season brand. I suspect that they are simply passing through a product from somewhere else (China?) with no control over the actual content. I see this as an increasingly common business practice these days, especially with food products, so I recommend sticking with trusted name brands. (I used to swear by generics and store brands, but no amount of money is worth getting sick even once.)
On the other hand, if you have recently opened a new bottle of any pills, I would suspect them first. Meds and supplements come under a totally different set of regulations, can change ingredients from one time to the next, and are not required to list gluten. In my experience, it can even be difficult for the pharmacist to determine gluten content. I get the best results by calling the information number for the manufacturer ... get it on the bottle, on the package, or from your pharmacist.
I would wish you good luck, but you have already found something much better than that ... this forum. Information is our armor.
